Trailer Watch: Diego Luna Rises Up Against The Empire In Rogue One Prequel Series Andor
Disney+ has dropped the teaser trailer for its coming series Andor, the prequel to 2016’s Rogue One, itself a prequel that takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, the streaming service announced Thursday (May 26) at the 2022 Star Wars Celebrations convention in Anaheim, California.
The 12-ep series, starring Diego Luna reprising his role as rebel fighter Cassian Andor, will premiere on the streaming service on August 31, with a two-episode launch. Another batch of 12 episodes will begin shooting in November.
Set five years before the events of Rogue One, Andor focuses on Cassian Andor’s journey as a rebel hero as he leads the growing resistance against the Empire as it aggressively expands its reach across the galaxy.
The series — created and showrun by Tony Gilroy, who co-wrote Rogue One and oversaw some of its reshoots as an uncredited director — also stars Forest Whitaker and Genevieve O’ Reilly, as Clone Wars veteran and radical insurgent Saw Gerrera and Rebel Alliance architect Mon Mothma, respectively.
The cast also includes Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller.
Other announcements made at the convention include Season 3 of The Mandalorian, arriving in February 2023, and Skeleton Crew, an Amblin-styled coming-of-age series starring Jude Law and created and executive-produced by Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Jon Watts and Chris Ford, that’s set after Return of the Jedi.
