The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Welcome back to Middle-earth! Based on JRR Tolkien’s appendices in Return of the King, this prequel is set thousands of years before the events The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and looks at the rise of Sauron and how the 19 rings were forged to battle him (we all know how they worked out). Among the familiar characters returning is Galadriel, aka The Lady of the Golden Wood, played by Cate Blanchett in Peter Jackson’s Oscar-winning trilogy, and now by Morfydd Clark. Amazon reportedly coughed up US$1 billion (S$1.4 bil) to produce the epic saga — US$250 million for the rights, and US$750 million to film five seasons.
