Charlie Goh Shares PSA After Getting Scammed Buying Salmon Online
Local actor Charlie Goh, 34, whom you’ll remember from his appearances in the Ah Boys To Men movie series, as well as Mediacorp drama Tanglin, had this very important PSA to share after falling victim to a scam.
The actor made the PSA on his Instagram Story, documenting how he’d initially set out to buy some salmon and beef online, only to receive nothing after making payment.
"Basically I chanced upon this sponsored ad on [Facebook] and I was interested in getting salmon and beef,” he wrote, sharing a screenshot of the page, which went by “Grocery retail”.
Good deal must share, right?
The advertisement post was hawking “top Norwegian sashimi salmon” for an affordable price of $60 for 3kg and $100 for 6kg. A quick search revealed that sashimi-grade salmon typically retails for about $45 to $100 for 1kg.
Charlie went on to share that he roped in his neighbour to split the 3kg salmon with him. He then continued to make payment and added an order for 1kg of wagyu beef, after chatting with the page about their prices and packaging. His total order amounted to S$160.
Everything seemed perfectly normal up till then, with the page sharing that the delivery would be made on the same day, before 6pm.
Scam alert!
Nothing came. When Charlie tried to message the page at 7pm that night to check on his order, he found out that he’d been blocked.
That was when he realised that he’d fallen for a scam. The actor went on to share how he made payment, revealing that the page gave him a number, “81768348” to make payment via PayLah!.
“This name is probably fake since [the PayLah! account] name can be changed. I tried calling the number and it can’t be dialled. Putting it out here so you guys don’t fall to the same scam. 81768348. Please share it with your friends and family,” he wrote.
No love for scammers.
Charlie also added another screenshot of a similar sponsored advertisement his friend saw on Facebook, warning everyone to steer clear of such posts, as they are likely to be scams as well.
He added that he has made a police report as well.
“These scammers think they can hide from the law, but it will eventually catch up to you. Even if t doesn’t, I pray your conscience eats [you] alive. And if it still doesn’t, God is watching my friend. You can take my money and spend it in hell,” he wrote.
