Ah Seng Durian says rival shop swapped their Mao Shan Wang with ‘smaller fruits’ after wrong delivery in FB rant
Ah Seng Durian may be one of Singapore’s most established durian shops, but even this famous brand is not safe from delivery mishaps - and alleged dishonest swaps. The folks behind the popular durian joint, which has two outlets at Alexandra Road and Ghim Moh, took to Facebook to complain about an incident at their Ghim Moh outlet last Thursday (25 July).

Their four-part FB story rant begins with: “Sighs. Why? Something happened earlier this evening. And you know we usually don’t post if it isn’t a big issue isn’t it?”
It all started with a delivery error of a pricey crate of Mao Shan Wang durians to an unnamed rival neighbouring stall instead of Ah Seng.

What happened?
After Ah Seng’s staff realised their last crate of durians were missing, they scoped the area, asking neighbouring durian stalls if they’d seen their missing goods.
They then encountered a vendor with a box of durians labelled ‘GM Seng’ - which Ah Seng says quite obviously stands for ‘Ghim Moh Seng’. However, the staff at the stall rudely shooed them away, asking them to provide proof of an invoice before claiming the durians.
“Our durians were swapped!”
The missing fruits were later returned to Ah Seng, but there were clear discrepancies in the original picture of the durians taken by the supplier before delivery, versus what Seng finally received.

The post claims Seng’s durians were swapped by the rival stall to inferior “smaller fruits with shrunken stems”, and some were even spray-painted.
The confrontation
When they confronted the staff at the accused durian stall, they claimed that they were unaware that the durians were Ah Seng’s, and confessed to replacing the fruit in the basket, explaining that they had accidentally sold some of Seng’s goods already.
“But why put back all the smaller fruits with shrunken stems into the basket ah? And when we were at your shop, we saw all [of our] bigger fruits with fresh stems there,” Ah Seng writes in their post.
8days.sg reached out to Ah Seng Durian for more details, but Ah Seng’s son and second-gen boss, Leonel Shui, declined to elaborate.
“Clearly, we all know deep inside what had happened”
Seng’s FB post, did however, say that the boss of the rival durian stall eventually reached out to apologise and offer compensation. However, Seng adds: “Nope, all’s done is done. A lesson well taught and learnt”.
Ah Seng Durian’s post concludes: “At least we sleep well every night with a clear conscience. Perhaps they sleep even better tonight with the free upgrade to bigger fruits and fresher stems!”.
